1. Introduction
At Petit Béret, we believe in a "Privacy First" approach. We aim to provide a powerful French learning experience without the need for invasive personal data collection. This policy explains what information is collected when you use our app on Android and iOS.
2. Data We Collect (and Why)
Even though we do not collect personal information like your name, email, or phone number by default, we do process certain technical data to make the app work:
- Anonymous Identifiers: We use Firebase Anonymous Authentication to create a unique but anonymous userId for you. This allows you to participate in leaderboards and sync your progress across devices without an account.
- Progress and Statistics: We track your learning progress, such as total Mastery Points, consistency, and exercise accuracy (for example, conjugation correct/wrong).
- Usage Analytics: We collect anonymous statistics about how the app is used, such as which modules are popular and active session time, to help us improve the content.
- Device Information: Technical details like your device model and OS version are processed by our service providers to ensure app stability and crash reporting.
3. Third-Party Services
We use trusted third-party services to provide essential app features:
- Google Firebase: Used for anonymous authentication, cloud synchronization of your XP/stats, and global/regional leaderboards.
- Apple iCloud (iOS only): Used for legacy synchronization of your core statistics across your Apple devices.
4. Data Storage and Ownership
- Offline First: Your core progress is stored locally on your device first. Syncing to the cloud happens only when an internet connection is available.
- Data Export: You own your data. You can use the built-in "Data Export" feature at any time to download a JSON file containing all your stats and progress.
- Deletion: If you delete the app and have not linked it to a permanent social account, your anonymous profile and its associated data on our servers will eventually be removed or become inaccessible.
5. Children's Privacy
Our app is designed for learners of all ages. Because we do not collect personally identifiable information (PII) by default, we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page or through an in-app notice.
